Certified Reinsurers

Filing Instructions for Certified Reinsurer Status

 

The following applications and materials are based on the provisions of KRS 304.5-140.

A reinsurer seeking certified reinsurer status in Kentucky must submit a duplicate copy of its application to the Kentucky Department of Insurance

at the following address:

An application consists of a completed checklist and all of the necessary corresponding exhibits.

Passport Application

 

Reinsurers with an initial certification application that has been reviewed by the NAIC Reinsurance Financial Analysis (E) Working Group (ReFAWG)

seeking certified reinsurer status in Kentucky should file a passport application. Complete the Uniform Checklist for Reciprocal Jurisdiction Reinsurers.

Full Application

 

Applicants that have not been certified as a reinsurer in an NAIC accredited jurisdiction should file a full application. Complete the 

Uniform Application Checklist for Certified Reinsurers
 

Applicants that have not been certified as a reinsurer in an NAIC accredited jurisdiction interested in having their certification reviewed by ReFAWG

for passporting purposes should also file the full application. Specific ReFAWG passporting requirements are noted in the checklist.

Kentucky will act as the applicant's "Lead State" for ReFAWG purposes.

 

Maintaining Certified Reinsurer Status

 

Pursuant to KRS 304.5-140, a reinsurer must annually meet applicable filing requirements to maintain certified reinsurer status. 

Annual renewal applications shall be submitted, in duplicate, to the Kentucky Department of Insurance no later than August 15 at the following address:

Annual Renewal Application

 

Applicants that filed a full application in Kentucky should annually complete the Uniform Application Checklist for Certified Reinsurers.
 

Annual Passport Application

 

Applicants that have passported into Kentucky should annually complete the Uniform Application Checklist for Certified Reinsurers.
