LEGAL SERVICES
The Office of Legal Services, Insurance Legal Division, represents the Department of Insurance (DOI) in state and federal court and in various administrative proceedings. The scope of issues undertaken by the division ranges from providing legal guidance to DOI personnel to taking administrative action against persons found to be in violation of Kentucky Insurance Code. The responsibilities of the division include, but are not limited to:
- Legal representation of DOI;

Drafting and review of proposed statutes, regulations, and legal opinions;

Drafting Advisory Opinions and Bulletins for DOI;

Enforcement of the Kentucky Insurance Code;

Assisting in the criminal prosecution of insurance fraud;

Pursuing legal action against persons engaged in unauthorized insurance transactions;

Consults with other agency officials and employees on the enforcement and application of state and federal laws governing the insurance industry; and
-
Serving as Custodian of Records for the purpose of the Open Records Act.
