Applicant Information

 

Individuals or business entities can obtain the following resident or nonresident licenses:

  • Adjuster or Apprentice Adjuster
  • Administrator (TPA)
  • Agent
  • Consultant
  • Life Settlement Broker
  • Life Settlement Provider
  • Managing General Agent
  • Reinsurance Intermediary Broker or Manager
  • Rental Vehicle Agent and Managing Employee
  • Pharmacy Benefit Manager
  • Portable Electronics Retailer
  • Surplus Lines Broker

Prospective applicants can expedite their applications/registrations submission via the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR) portal. 

When applying for a resident license you must request a criminal background check from the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) by submitting an electronic request via AOC's  AOCFastCheck portal, which notifies you via e-mail when the results are available. After the Department processes your application/registration, you can search your name via our Individual/Business Entity Search.

 

An individual applying for an insurance license who is the spouse of a current member of the Armed Forces of the United States who is assigned to a duty station in the Commonwealth of Kentucky shall be eligible for a waiver or refund of licensing fees, pursuant to KRS 12.357.

An applicant for an individual license who submits a paper application will not be required to submit the associated licensing fees if the applicant demonstrates compliance with the requirements of KRS 12.357.

An applicant for an individual license who submits an electronic application via an online third-party vendor shall be required to submit all related licensing fees. These fees will be refunded to the applicant within thirty (30) days of their submission if the applicant demonstrates compliance with the requirements of KRS 12.357.

To demonstrate compliance with KRS 12.357, an applicant shall include the following with their application:

  1. Proof that the applicant is married to a current member of the Armed Forces of the United States;
  2. Proof that the applicant's spouse is assigned to a duty station in the Commonwealth of Kentucky; and
Proof that the applicant has satisfied all statutory and regulatory pre-licensing course of study requirements, and all statutory and regulatory examination requirements, or proof that the applicant holds a valid individual insurance license issued by another state, the District of Columbia, or any possession or territory of the United States.
